Encouragements

We have had a good day today, we stayed home from Church this morning because I wasn't too well and we felt it would be better for John to go in the evening. We listened to Rev C.D.Alexander on the blood of Christ. It was lovely to be reminded of all that Christ acomplished on the cross for us, how God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself. He spoke of Hebrews 9:14 ,"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" Mr Alexander said the Holy Spirit was in Christ offering Him up to the Father for our sins. The whole trinity was working at calvary for our salvation. This preaching lifted minds and hearts to heavenly things and turned us away from our present earthly troubles. We had scouse for dinner and settled into a restful afternoon, during the afternoon we began to ask John about various things he's knows well, English kings, 5 points of calvinism, quotes he had to finish. We gave John as long as he needed to retrieve the information, sometimes we gave him clues. One of the funniest moments was when he was trying to recall Oliver Cromwell and said Oliver Twist instead. Something seemed to click with John after this he just seemed more aware of himself. It was as though he re-connected with himself, all this knowledge had seemed to be lost but finding it again seemed to make him more like his old self.
We went to Church this evening and our minister preached on Psalm 6,King David had been crying to the Lord through a terrible sickness and the Lord had withdrawn His felt presence. This is how John has felt over the last two weeks he said the preaching comforted him a great deal, being reminded that just because we can't feel God's presence it doesn't mean He isn't there, it is a blessed thing if when we feel like, that we are still crying to the Lord, and later in the Psalm God had heard David's cry. John said he was able to read the Bible for a short while but then he found it hard again. This has been a blessed day that has given us real hope that John will get better, thank you again for all your prayers.
